
A Journey to Safety with Noor Kaida
Noor Kaida, a 15-year-old girl. Her father died in Myanmar since she was three years old. Her mother married to another man who had his first wife. Noor’s mother gave birth a daughter at her second husband’s home. During influx in 2017, her mother was pregnant of four months. While people from Myanmar were fleeing to Bangladesh, her stepfather sent them to Bangladesh by a boat though he didn’t come with them.
They have taken shelter in Camp 27. After few months, her mother gave birth a boy. The camp’s life was difficult for them. During 2019, her mother got a job at a humanitarian agency as volunteer in camp. In the meantime, her mother got engaged with another man and married to him leaving Noor Kaida and her siter.
Noor Kaida was very much afraid of this incident as they lost their mother. During this hard time of Noor Kaida Agrajattra case worker Rifa Akter and community volunteer Roksar Bibi connected with her.
Rifa talked to the Majhi (community leader) and Noor Kaida as well. Immediate need of the children was to arrange an alternative care arrangement for them. Noor Kaida expressed her choice to stay with her aunty who was living nearby. Noor Kaida’s Aunty was also agreed to keep them with her as they have available space to keep them. After assessing the security concern by case worker and involving the camp authority, Noor Kaida and her sister shifted to her aunty’s home. Her aunty was provided with basic CP orientation. In coordination with WFP, Rife Akter managed the food card for them. She referred Noor Kaida to a life skills program and talked to the teacher of nearby learning center to include Noor Kaida’s sister to the learning center.
Rifa contacted with Noor Kaida’s father in Myanmar, and he also maintain communication with them. The case has concluded with a happy face of Noor Kaida.
