Project summary
The SPiRiT project aims to strengthen the resilience, protection, and inclusion of 17,000 climate-affected children and youth (ages 12–24) in Dhaka, Kurigram, and Satkhira with joint support from Olympic Refugee Foundation, and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Through structured sport and psychosocial support, SPiRiT focuses on improving the inclusion and empowerment of children and youth affected by, or at risk of displacement due to climate change, contributing to their overall resilience and the development of essential life skills.


Project Outcomes
This project is working to include and empower adolescents and youth who are displaced or at risk of climate-induced displacement in Dhaka, Kurigram and Satkhira informal settlement. It is doing this by: (1) improve psychosocial well‑being and resilience through meaningful participation in MHPSS and safe sport activities(2) improve capacity in leadership, climate change adaptation, and mitigation of risks related to unsafe migration and displacement. (3) creating an enabling environment for safe sports participation for climate-affected vulnerable children and youth in Dhaka, Kurigram and Satkhira.
Key activities
- Implement the S4P toolkits and ENGAGE Curriculum to build resilience among 17,000 children and youth through structured sports and life skills sessions.
- Pilote programs in schools, conducted over 1,100 community awareness sessions, and refurbish 150 playgrounds across Dhaka, Kurigram, and Satkhira.
- Support 273 youth-led initiatives to promote climate awareness in their communities.
- Engage with government ministries, sports authorities, and local actors through regular meetings, joint monitoring visits, and a national-level learning event.
- Form 32 community committees, held over 1,500 meetings, and train local actors on child protection and climate issues.
- Conduct research on climate, sports, and children’s rights, and develop a documentary to raise awareness among key stakeholders.
