Project Summary
The Protecting Children and Young Women from Commercial Sexual Exploitation in Daulatdia project, funded by FCDO and implemented by Tdh in partnership with Mukti Mahila Samity (MMS), aims to break the intergenerational cycle of commercial sexual exploitation in one of Bangladesh’s largest brothel areas, Daulatdia. Targeting 1,000 beneficiaries, the project addresses root causes such as poverty, lack of education, and unsafe environments through community-driven initiatives, mental health support, and capacity-building programs.
Project Goal
The project aims to help break the cycle of intergenerational commercial sexual exploitation of children and young women in Daulatdia brothel, Dhaka and to contribute towards a future where children are empowered, protected, and free from violence, abuse and exploitation.
Key Activities
- The project expands the involvement of survivors and affected girls and boys in ‘Sports for Protection (S4P) sessions, aimed at developing their physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being as well as social inclusion and cohesion.
- Support is provided for organizing community support groups to take community-led initiatives and collective action on issues, e.g., alternative income sources, financial management, collective savings, and conflict resolution.
The project strengthens evidence-based advocacy and multi-stakeholder engagement to combat commercial sexual exploitation.
