Conflict mitigation and MHPSS support in Teknaf

Funded by GIZ and implemented in partnership with the Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR), the project ran from December 2020 to February 2023. Its objective was to promote peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution between host and FDMN (Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals) communities while improving the psychosocial wellbeing of adolescents and young people affected by human-made violence.

Implemented in Camp 26, Camp 27, and Nhilla Union in Teknaf, the project integrated Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and conflict mitigation strategies, reaching 3,904 direct and 19,500 indirect beneficiaries.

Through MHPSS activities, adolescents received psychosocial support via Problem Management Plus (PM+) counselling and creative expression through YouCreate group-based art actions. Caregivers engaged in family support and strengthening sessions, and stakeholders were trained on the PM+ curriculum to enhance service delivery capacity.

Conflict mitigation efforts included training community members from both FDMN and host populations in peaceful conflict transformation, mediating local disputes, and empowering women through training on leadership and community mobilization. These efforts contributed to a more stable and resilient community environment.
